General Mathematics Unit 3 AOS 2 - Recursion and Financial Modelling

Students will learn recursion & depreciation, compound interest, reducing balance loans, annuities & perpetuities, and compound interest with additional payments.

This Unit is composed of five different modules that can be completed individually (approximately 4 hours each). The modules include:

General Mathematics Unit 3 AOS 2: 2.1 - Recursion & depreciation

Students will explore Recursion and Depreciation through the following concepts:

  • CAS Calculator Introduction

  • Recurrence Relationship

  • Growth and Decay

  • Recurrence and Financial Modelling

  • Graphs of Linear and Non-Linear Relations

  • Flat Rate/Reducing Balance/Unit Cost Depreciation

General Mathematics Unit 3 AOS 2: 2.2 - Compound interest

Students will explore Compound Interest Investment through the following chapters:

  • Simple Interest

  • Compound Interests

  • Using the CAS financial solver

  • Effective Interest

General Mathematics Unit 3 AOS 2: 2.3 - Reducing balance loans

Students will explore Reducing Balance Loans through the following chapters:

  • Reducing Interest Loans with periodic payment

  • Reducing Balance Loan – Amortisation

  • Using the CAS financial solver

  • Comparing Loans

General Mathematics Unit 3 AOS 2: 2.4 - Annuities & perpetuities

Students will explore Annuities and Perpetuities through the following chapters:

  • Annuity with payment using a table

  • Using the CAS financial solver

  • Perpetuities

General Mathematics Unit 3 AOS 2: 2.5 - Compound interest with additional payments

Students will explore Compound Interest with Payment through the following chapters:

  • First Principles up to 5 and Tables

  • Annuity formula for investment

  • Using the CAS financial solver

  • Recursion, Growth and Decay
