Students will learn how to operate a CAS calculator for Data Analysis, investigate types of data distributions, investigating two variable data, modelling linear associations and time series.

This unit is composed of five different modules that can be completed individually (approximately 4 hours each). The modules include:

### General Mathematics Unit 3 AOS 1: 1.1 - Using your CAS

Students will learn and test their knowledge in using their CAS calculator for Data Analysis through the following:

• Using the CAS Calculator to investigate one and two Variable Data

• Using the CAS to investigate and model linear association

• Regression line, residual plot from table & straight from CAS

• Hints and tips when using your CAS

### General Mathematics Unit 3 AOS 1: 1.2 - Data Distributions

Students will investigate data distributions, including:

• Types of Data

• Categorical and Numerical data

• Using distribution/s of categorical data

• 5 number Summary, Boxplot and Outliers

• Sample mean and standard deviation

• Normal Distribution and Standardised Values (z-scores)

• Population, sample and random numbers

### General Mathematics Unit 3 AOS 1: 1.3 - Two Variables

Students will be investigating associations between two variables, including:

• Two Variable Statistics

• Response and explanatory variables

• Describing associations between two categorical variables and numerical and categorical variables

• Scatterplots

• Pearson correlation coefficient

• Cause and effect

### General Mathematics Unit 3 AOS 1: 1.4 - Linear Associations

Students will be investigating and modelling linear associations, including:

• Linear Association, Least Square Regression and Predictions

• Coefficient of determination

• Residual analysis

• Data transformation and using this data to make predictions

### General Mathematics Unit 3 AOS 1: 1.5 - Time Series

Students will be investigating and modelling time series data, including:
