Self-driving cars are the future of transport, but how do they work? In this program, students program their own Lego robotic car to be an autonomous vehicle which reacts to various road environments, learning the basics of robotics and programming.
Students will use a block coding language to control the robot cars. They will use the concepts of parallel programming to create multiple event driven programs which work together to respond to sensor inputs on the robot. The objective of the day will be to create the programs individually, and then combine them to work together to allow the robotic car to navigate through a road network from a shopping centre to a house, obeying various road rules and avoiding obstacles along the way. This is an ideal introduction to event driven real time programming.
