VCE Module
Students will learn about the generation and transmission of electricity.

This unit is composed of three different modules that can be completed individually (approximately 4 hours each). The modules include:

Physics Unit 3 AOS 2: 2.1 - Fields and interactions

Students will use interactive activities including simulations, videos and apps, to investigate:

  • Gravitation, magnetism and electricity using a field model

  • A comparison between gravitational, magnetic and electric fields

  • A comparison between the vector field model and magnetic phenomena

  • Fields as static or changing, and as uniform or non-uniform.

Physics Unit 3 AOS 2: 2.2 - Effects of fields

Students will use interactive activities including simulations, videos, and apps, to:

  • Analyse the use of an electric field to accelerate a charge.

  • Analyse the use of a magnetic field to change the path of a charged particle.

  • Analyse the use of gravitational fields to accelerate a mass.

Physics Unit 3 AOS 2: 2.3 - Application of field concepts

Students will use interactive activities including simulations, videos and apps, to:

  • Apply the concepts of force due to gravity and normal reaction force

  • Model satellite motion as uniform circular orbital motion.

  • Describe the interaction of two fields, allowing for electric charges, magnetic poles and current carrying conductors.

  • Study the force on a current carrying conductor due to an external magnetic field.

  • Study the operation of simple DC motors.

  • Model the acceleration of particles in a particle accelerator.
