Physics Unit 3 AOS 2 - How do things move without contact?
This unit is composed of three different modules that can be completed individually (approximately 4 hours each). The modules include:
Physics Unit 3 AOS 2: 2.1 - Fields and interactions
Students will use interactive activities including simulations, videos and apps, to investigate:
Gravitation, magnetism and electricity using a field model
A comparison between gravitational, magnetic and electric fields
A comparison between the vector field model and magnetic phenomena
Fields as static or changing, and as uniform or non-uniform.
Physics Unit 3 AOS 2: 2.2 - Effects of fields
Students will use interactive activities including simulations, videos, and apps, to:
Analyse the use of an electric field to accelerate a charge.
Analyse the use of a magnetic field to change the path of a charged particle.
Analyse the use of gravitational fields to accelerate a mass.
Physics Unit 3 AOS 2: 2.3 - Application of field concepts
Students will use interactive activities including simulations, videos and apps, to:
Apply the concepts of force due to gravity and normal reaction force
Model satellite motion as uniform circular orbital motion.
Describe the interaction of two fields, allowing for electric charges, magnetic poles and current carrying conductors.
Study the force on a current carrying conductor due to an external magnetic field.
Study the operation of simple DC motors.
Model the acceleration of particles in a particle accelerator.
