Students will design a 'Formula 1 style' racing vehicle using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software and then construct their design using a CNC machine. They will race their designs to see who truly has "The Need for Speed."

This program is multifaceted and multidisciplinary. It inspires students to learn about engineering principles such as physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacturing, leadership, teamwork, media skills and project management, and then apply them in practical, creative and exciting ways. It also raises awareness of careers and pathways related to Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM).

Students will use industry level, 3D CAD/CAM to design, analyse, test, manufacture and race miniature CO2 powered balsa wood cars.

After this 3 day program, students and schools may well be inspired to compete in the F1 in Schools Challenge and work their way to a spot in the World Championships!

The first two days can be consecutive, but the third must be 3 weeks apart from the second day to allow for the manufacture of cars.
