Nobel Laureate Prof Harold Varmus will deliver this year's Oration. Prof Varmus together Dr Michael Bishop discovered that cancer-causing genes within the retroviruses originated from normal genes present in normal mammalian cells. This led to their 1989 Noble Prize and launched the golden age in cancer research that continues to grow in impact and momentum.
